meeting alice nine eve

I used to be very very obsessed with JRock to the extent where I’d spend a hundred Ringgit on 2 CD tracks and 1 DVD track without cringing at my behavior. Over the recent years, I guess I’ve stopped buying so many singles and occasionally, magazines…that I can only stare in awe and not understand a single interview in it. I paid more attention to the events happening around me… and well, glorious tempting food. When I lost touch to all the fandoms, I would only loop that specific several few songs from several bands and mainly listen to covers by YouTubers and Krewella. Yes, if you don’t believe me, I loop Krewella’s Get Wet album every single day without fail, heh.

So what got me here, typing about Jrock again?

Alice Nine.

Few months ago, I blogged about how I miraculously had the urge to go onto their ohp and miraculously stumbled across a recent news on their asia tour. I don’t think I’ve updated about it, but I actually bought my ticket months ago too.

and y’know what?

it’s time.

After 5 years (I suppose), half a decade of listening to this band, indulging myself in their music, fandom, nico nico shows, magazine scans, I’m finally meeting them.

in 1 day / 2 hrs / 50 minutes / 10 seconds

and i can finally achieve one of my goals: to attend a concert

yet at the same time, I broke a promise to myself. Which was that my first live/concert experience would be the GazettE and well more specifically, it has to be IN Japan, imsorry. Opportunities are tough.

Hopefully I can sleep later tonight! Ciao! It’s gonna be a long day tomorrow!

EM Cosmetics Review: The great cover up and waterliner!

I’ve always been in love with the concept of how ridiculously better one can look with a little bit of concealer and eyeliner. Throughout the past few years, I’ve always looked up to Michelle Phan’s makeup tutorials. I remember it all started when I was searching for Poker face on youtube and Michelle Phan’s poker face makeup tutorial appeared, curiosity kills the cat, they say. I clicked.

After watching her videos for so many years, from webcam quality to the current DSLR studio quality videos, when she had released her makeup line, I was itching to get them. Unfortunately, when the brand was just freshly launched, they don’t ship internationally. That’s like the last thing I wanted to hear, and I was expecting EM to reach Malaysia’s Sephora in a couple of months then I’ll make my first trip to Malaysia’s Sephora haha. I know that they do offer international shipping now, via MYUS. Though I don’t see the point in it, like, it would’ve been much cheaper and convenient to have EM Cosmetics ship directly to you instead of going through a shopping agent. Then again, I do not know how much manpower is needed, so it’s alright.

So what I got was The Great Cover Up concealer in light neutral/cool and the product a lot had been raving about, the waterliner in sunshine yellow!

Before I go into the review, I’ll just say where I got the products from.

I got them from a blogshop, Pixieclicks_ you can check out their facebook page or their instagram page here @pixieclicks_

I actually did a lot of calculations before placing my order, I calculated how much it’ll be if I order through MYUS and order via pixieclicks and pixieclicks wins because obviously, I didn’t need to bear any expensive freight costs because the blogshop owner was actually coming back to Msia for a while and has decided to open a preorder batch. Lucky me la. Instagram shopping for the winz!

first up! The great cover up!

The moment my parcel arrived, I was already so kanchiong. Actually, I get really kanchiong over every single parcel of mine, especially stuff that I’ve paid with my own saved money. Which is probably 3/4 of my online shopping. But receiving this was like receiving a preordered Jrock release in the mail. Ok maybe not that level. CLOSE.

but its been so long since I’ve preordered a jrock single, I miss that kanchiong feel…maybe I should go back to cdjapan shopping again

So the sell point of the concealer is it’s amazing coverage. I mean, it was demonstrated to cover up sharpie! No, I did not test that out, though I am impressed at the concealer. It matches my skin tone far too well!

Here’s the thing, the first time I’ve swatched it on my wrist, I was panicking so much that it’ll be too dark for my face. Then I’ve concluded that my face is probably darker than my arm.

A little goes a long way.

That’s true. Whenever using this concealer, there is a saying everyone has to bear in mind. Because I’ve noticed that if too much is used, the concealer will crease and cake up on your face. Besides of that, I recommend using a primer before applying the concealer. The other day when I applied the concealer on my bare face (because I forgot to apply a primer before that) the concealer was creasing so badly, I ended up removing everything before heading out. #bareface

My points?

The Packaging:

I won’t touch much on this.

[outer] I like how its just white black and inside was filled with all the inspirational ‘em’ words.

[inner] It’s white and very clean looking, nothing fancy, just simply nice and pretty.

Coverage:

The coverage is good. The consistency wasn’t something runny but instead more like a thick cream that goes on pretty well. The downside is the part where I /must/ apply a base before applying it.(I used Benefit’s porefessional) The coverage wasn’t exactly level flawless, dark circle visibility: null . Though you could see from the pic below that it’s great for everyday and it definitely evens out the skin tone. Downside is really just the fact that if applying too much, it does crease.

Price:

I don’t purchase many face products, I pretty much stick to that one product haha, the only makeup product that I would keep buying and can never have enough are eye shadows. Just yesterday I’ve added a Bobbi brown single eye shadow to my wishlist. Many would be expecting me to rate a 5/10 for the price (I know, because I’m very cheapskate) but for the face, I’ve learned that if you play play, tomorrow you can wake up and throw your face away. I paid RM90 for this which I think it’s alright.(after all, you’re like importing a product over.) I know it’s quite pricey for teenagers but I use this so often now that I think RM90 is definitely worth my savings. I think I’ve also forgot to mention that it matches my face’s skin tone super well? I’ve always and I mean, ALWAYS thought that whenever picking a concealer colour, I must always get like 2-3 shades lighter. but when considering the part where I’m only heading to 1 Utama with just concealer and powder, I really don’t want to have my under-eyes being so eye catching. So what it does is cover up my acne scars and brightens up my panda circles with natural finish, so much win in this.

Would I repurchase?

yes. definitely. colour match level: over 9000.

Note to self; Get one in fair neutral and compare. I’ve just went onto emcosmetics.com and noticed that fair neutral seems lighter than light neutral so I might as well give it a go.

This was the second and last (sadly) product I got.

The waterliner.

A formula created specially for our delicate waterliner.

I am never ever good with eye pencils. Its like, the moment I draw a line on my wrist, the pencil ALWAYS breaks. This one including. Probably shows how soft the formula is, I don’t know haha.

This was a product I was dying to get, I know how much I wanted a life palette then, I mean, I saved so much and waited for the launch of the cosmetic line, so when I found out that they don’t ship internationally, Alice Nine decides to tell me “hey, my asia tour includes your country, so you might as well take that cash you’ve saved up and come rock the night with us.” okay, no problem! Alice nine > anything else.

The pencil is very pretty though! I mean, see how pretty is that gold tube?

I truly detest sharpening pencils. But hey, I had to sharpen this pencil in less than 15 seconds after taking it out from the white box packaging it came with. I’ll admit, maybe I’m too rough for it that the tip decide to break on my hand. (i mean every single pencil liner breaks but after sharpening the pencil once, I can draw swirls on my hand without breaking it!) The reason why I hate sharpening pencils is because the sharpener is always so hard to clean but this sharpener was easy to clean and even if I don’t really clean it, it’s still fine, I mean, I wouldn’t need to worry having blue mixed into my gold eyeliner pencil right? Smudger(?) works great too! I like highlighting the inner corners of my eyes then smudging it out! Very royalty feel ok.

Smudge proof? yes.

Long wearing? not really.

My points?

The Packaging:

I love the color of the packaging, its sparkly and I can’t get enough of glitter. Another +1 because the entire pencil is gold, I can easily find it in my makeup bag since I’ll instantly know what colour it is no matter which side I pick the pencil up from.

Pigmentation/ colour pay-off:

The liner definitely makes your eyes look bigger, i mean, it brightens up your waterline! Though I must say, it does look cakey on the lower lash line after half a day when the makeup melts a little. Although its smudge proof, it’s definitely not long lasting. (on my waterline, it disappeared after half a day outdoor)

Smoothness:

Its great! It goes on super easily! Unlike a few pencil liners I’ve bought in the past where after their first break( then I sharpened it ), the moment I apply it on my eyes, the pencil just breaks again, though, on my lid itself. Super scary. This waterliner is super creamy thus, easy application and I’ve compared it with a high-end pencil and it was as if that pencil was trying to literally scratch my waterline ouch.

Price:

Like most people, I do think that for a fairly new brand, the pricing shouldn’t be this high. While this waterliner retails for 18$(USD), MAC Cosmetics’ pro longwear eye liner is retailing at 19.50$. I actually took this into consideration before purchasing because if so many MAC products are in my wishlist because of it’s price, then why would I pay so much for a waterliner when I can just top-up a little to get MAC. (well basically, I even paid more because of exchange rates and stuff, I paid RM95 for the waterliner while from online reviews, the MAC eye liner retails for RM88 in stores) but then again, since I was so into this product when it was first launched, I might as well grab one just to join the bandwagon and see whether I’ve finally found the perfect liner for my waterline. Pssst. nope, still looking for a perfect liner.

Would I repurchase?

I can’t say this, I’ll be trying out other brands’ pencil liners first, though I’m definitely interested in getting other colours some day in the future! I mean, just because it doesn’t last all day, I can always touch up. /andprobablybecauseican’tgetenoughofmakeupingeneral

left - the great cover up in light neutral/cool ;; waterliner in sunshine yellow. You see how the colour difference? The trick is, “a little goes a long way”

covers up the liner as if it was never there to begin with! oh and the liner is indeed smudge proof when I tried wiping it with my finger.

wah. zombie. please don’t get nightmares. if you do, i’m sorry. well not really.

covered up not all, but most! Just with a little bit of concealer and also used the gold liner. I think I can afford to add more concealer without getting a caked face but hey, now I don’t need to apply foundation whenever I use concealer. Too bad no contouring skills can make my nose smaller *cries*

Overall point of view ;;

While I’m super in love with the concealer, the waterliner is just so so to me. If the liner works better for me in the future after more uses, I’ll update this post!

;;disclaimer;;

I feel the need of this (especially this post) because I thought I should at least make a note saying that I’ve bought everything with my own cash and I’m not paid to do this. Every review on this blog, especially this post is based on my honest point of view, so if I like it, I’ll like it, and I will make a point to list what I didn’t like about a specific purchase. Everyone needs to be aware that everyone has different skin conditions and that for products that work for me might not necessarily work for you, vice versa. So just because I go gaga over Michelle Phan’s videos, no, it doesn’t mean I’ll be bias on my review. ^^

Thanks for reading! Ciao ciao! <3

Star Cruise to Phuket and Krabi pt2 : Krabi

I don’t know what people are expecting of me from my studies, but hey, guess what? I actually went travelling during my break.

I know. Very yolo. Thank you very much.

Well, I went to Singapore last week and that…would be a much delayed post in the future!

Back on track with my Star Cruise adventure!

Ko Tapu!

Our first stop was Krabi. Overall, I’d say it was a good experience. I’m not sure which shore excursion we chose, but I do remember sitting in the speedboat passing by several islands in different shapes. I personally am not that used to anything outdoor. (i’m sorry that I grew up to be such an unadventurous scared of death teen ok. Super paranoid over small matters, because I know my luck is as bad as dame tsuna’s. )

Basically, after the ship has arrived at Krabi, we got off and took another smaller boat (maybe its a ferry? i don’t know.) to the island. From there, we walked to the tour bus, the bus then brought us to somewhere (memory fail here. hahahaha). Well from there, we took a speed boat to James Bond Island. I cannot remember, the only thing I remember the tour guide saying was ‘zero zero nana’ 007. yeah. Basically the tour was half Japanese & half Malaysian. You get japanese & english translation of the same thing. I think the tour guide used simple everyday japanese words la, cause I pretty much ignored the english tour guide haha.

and well, one of the japanese tour guide (that was in charged for the japanese tourists, not the shore excursion) looked so much like hidekazu ichinose. Well, just pointing it out.

After arriving at Phang Nga Bay (a.k.a James Bond Island), we were free for about half an hour or more? Took photos here and there, makeup melt, silently inner-sobbed fml because of my melting makeup, take more photos, hide from the sun, get back onto the speedboat, head to lunch. I cannot take spicy food, with the addition of a bad sore throat (got it after I went to Krabi, totally holiday spoiler) , I even tried to minimize the amount of fried food I eat so I kinda ate veggie with some other goreng goreng stuff and either it was noodles or white rice haha. Really cannot remember la, but I’m super picky with food. So if you want my most honest comment, no. I did not enjoy lunch. Even though I say that, I will forever remember the saying 吃的是福 I think that’s how you put it. I don’t know, ‘sek dak si fuk’. That’s because I super love food. Like megalove. Food is like, story of my life…and size. Anyways, just enjoy the few photos instead ba!

in the boat to Krabi! No, the japanese tour guide that I said looks like Hidekazu Ichinose is not here. ;_;

I was actually quite angry la, the weather was so hot (but thank kami-sama that it’s hot and not raining) and the bus was parked like a 10-15minute walk away.

I love skies. For your information, katekyo hitman reborn is NOT the reason, ok. But I know, I know, one can relate. ;)

We passed by islands that were shaped like bears, elephants etc. I think this is a dog. If it’s not, I’m sorry. Because half of the time the tour guide told us what a specific island looks like, I was guessing it as something else.

This was super cool. If I’m not mistaken, this should be Koh Pan Yi. Floating village that is like super colourful!

then we arrived at james bond island. I know theres a sign, I’m such a horrible tourist, I don’t know why I skipped it. It’s ok, I saw it with my own eyes, just that, I don’t have physical proof.

The island had a lot of tourists and of course you’ll find a ton of souvenir stores!

Now look at everyone getting creative.

Daiso Pearl in eye shadow review

look was created with the applicator that came along with the palette. Used NYX jumbo eye pencil in milk for the base.

Did you guys know? The very first eye shadow I’ve purchased was from Daiso?
Being a secondary school freshie getting into cosplay then, I had a budget to spend within(aka left over lunch money) ok, maybe my budget was a little high because all I ever had to saved up for were my makeup and wig while my mom sponsored my costume by saying we can ‘share share wear’ (obviously rotting in her cupboard now haha)

My first eyeshadow purchase from Daiso was the Pearl in eye shadow (the blue one). This time I bought the same series in neutral shades, earthy brown colours.

Packaging
7.5 / 10
Sponge brush
6/10
Price
10/10
Pigmentation
7/10

The packaging:
I like how I’m able to see what colours are in the small palette of four. I guess this is something I’ve noticed from most drugstore palettes, their packaging would be something simple and neat. Though what I’m happy is that the lid closes easily and it wouldn’t budge open easily in my makeup bag. You see, I actually check in my makeup instead of hand carrying it when I’m travelling so its a great thing that I didn’t have the need to secure the small palette with rubber band.

Sponge brush:
Ever since I’ve invested on some relatively cheap brushes, I’ve never really used these applicators anymore. Though for the sake of the review, I gave it a go. The brush was quite hard to work with because it’s pretty short and I kept it clear to use half of each side for one specific color only. It wasn’t easy blending with the brush, but I managed to blend with my fingers. So if you don’t own any brushes or you don’t really feel like having the extra baggage of carrying a few brushes, the small applicator really helps for travelers! It’s just a little more troublesome, not impossible! I personally used these applicators many years ago before I ventured deeper into this passion of mine.

Price:
10/10
RM5 for 4 shadows, to top it off, they’re neutral shades that one could rock every . single . day. So definitely worth it!

Pigmentation:
Honestly, for the price, I’d say pretty good? Well, except for the grey. It just wasn’t as dark as I’ve pictured. I was picturing more of a black, but it barely shows up on top of the brown shadow on my eyes. Though for the price, the colour payoff is considered very good. The pigmentation wasn’t strong enough for my liking, though, build-able. However on the eyes, the brown shades blends with one another far too easily for my liking.
