Free! Episode 1 Review / Spoilers

To start off, let me tell you guys a little about Free!

This anime WASN’T supposed to be an anime to begin with, it was originally a short clip released to promote Kyoto Animation.

Apparently from what I heard, due to the demand from a massive amount of fans “Swimming Anime” had, they had decided to make it into an anime. *cheers* The anime was bound to have a huge and growing fandom, let me just ask you one question, which girl out there doesn’t like hot looking anime boys flipping their hair after coming out from the pool wearing absolutely nothing but swimming trunks? Even some males are watching it because of the sports. With just the first episode released, no, just the promo vid Kyoto Animation had, people already began shipping characters with characters and right after episode 1 was released, I’m sure that most of our fellow fujoshis out there has begun to ship a rather odd ship…

Nanase X Water

Seriously?!

Yes seriously, I shamelessly ship it too. heh.

Rebocon 5

aka the latest Rebocon DVD.

Honestly, from my personal point of view, this was probably by far the BEST Rebocon DVD, well unless Rebocon 3 beats this, I don’t know. I havent watched Rebocon 3 and I’ll keep it til I buy it some day this year. Seriously, right now, I’m watching the Rebocon in Taiwan special and I’m already itching to grab a copy of it and watch it in HD on the TV screen.

At first I wanted to type a section on why I assume that Rebocon 5’s the best but after reading Rebocon 3 and watching the amazingly fun and hilarious bonus from the Rebocon in Taiwan which was uploaded somewhere in facebook, I’ll just list out the reasons on why I chose to purchase Rebocon 5 together with Rebocon 2009 instead of the rest.

1. The cover was super tempting.

2. The content. The setlist is just woah. I mean, how can I possibly not purchase it when so many of my favorite character songs were in there? Fran’s Special Illusion, End:Res, One Night Star and I’ve previously watched a video on Drawing Days live by the entire rebocon5 cast, that was the moment where I told myself, if I’m getting Rebocon, Rebocon 2009 & Rebocon 5 would be my choice.

3. Burning Prayer. I’ve listened to the live version of this song on YT a while ago as well, and I suppose its probably from Rebocon 3? I wasn’t sure but when I saw Lal on the cover of Rebocon 5, I knew that Burning Player would be performed.

Now, here’s what made me FELL IN LOVE with Rebocon 5 and told myself that, girl, you saved your money for this, and this was worth it. This is your contribution to the fandom that had you stuck for 6 years.

I personally has not listened to ALL the character songs ever existed. That’s a confession. And let’s see, I’ve actually chose to watch Rebocon 5 first then only Rebocon 2009 hence this DVD made me fell in love with several songs, by the way, this is in no particular order.

Be more - Dino, Chinkonka no Ame - Squalo (but I really enjoyed Yamamoto + Basil’s version of this), Tatta Latta Varia version (after you’ve watched it, remember to watch the bonus which was hilarious even if you don’t understand Japanese, you’d probably be like “Uwaah, Sachi-chan’s so cute haha), Right now - Basil & Tsuna, Oretachi no Yakusoku - Dino & Hibari & Yamamoto & Gokudera

To be honest, just from reviews and all won’t heat things up, you need to watch it to absorb the feeling of excitement and better, be there, LIVE. That is unfortunately something even I am still waiting for. Anyways, here are photos of my copy of Rebocon 5! :3

This is what it’ll look like.

Here, you remove the plastic.

Clear view of the set list.

That piece of PONY CANYON PREMIUM paper…I have no idea what it was, I’ve probably scanned the QR code on it but forgot what it did haha. Anyways, this was the booklet that tucks nicely in the box.

Because you couldn’t see Ichi-san’s face on the other pic haha

Those were some shots I took of the booklet. So if you want more photos, please support Rebocon by buying the live DVD.

Now, where to buy it?

If you’re residing in Japan/ knows anyone in Japan, you can buy it from here for 6510yen including tax:

http://special.canime.jp/reborn.html

Or if you’re not from Japan and you’re not sure of any trustworthy Japan shopping agents/ services, you could also opt for CDJapan, which is how I got my Rebocon dvds. However through CDJapan, the keychain wasn’t included.

CDJapan - Rebocon 5. 9099Yen excluding shipping approx 91USD/ RM283

*Disclaimer*

Nope, as always, this post wasn’t sponsored at all. 9099yen + 2000+yen EMS shipping all came from my own savings.

I could actually go rambling on and for this but I’ll save it for next time, after all, all I wanted to blog for this was to share pictures to encourage more people to get Rebocon. I don’t know but apparently alot of my friends out there and furthermore, anime merch/dvd resellers in my country DOESN’T know what was Rebocon. They looked at me as if I was crazy so THERE YOU GO, I bought it and it exists. They were literally telling me that there was no such thing and that Pony Canyon did not release DVDs on the live, so tell me, what are these CDs that I’m watching at the moment? haha. I won’t say which shop I’m talking about but I’m sure you’d heard of the shop if you’re from Malaysia.

ciao ciao!

Rebocon 2009

which I suppose is the 2nd Rebocon.

Photos below that are new were taken using le mom’s iPhone 5. Old photos with the floral background are from my D3100.

This was the front cover of it. Now to answer some questions that I did not mention back in my old long lost post.

Inside this box consists of 1 booklet & 1 DVD.

The cast that were present in that Rebocon are:

Kokubun Yukari as Sawada Tsuna, Neeko as Reborn, Ichinose Hidekazu as Gokudera Hayato, Inoue Suguru as Yamamoto Takeshi, Takashi Kondo as Hibari Kyoya(his case will be explained later), Toshinobu Iida as Rokudo Mukuro, Takeuchi Junko as Lambo, Hidenobu Kiuchi as Sasagawa Ryohei, Inamura Yuuna as Sasagawa Kyoko, Yoshida Hitomi as Miura Haru, Chiang Li-Mei as I-pin, Fujiwara Yuki as Belphegor, Takahashi Hiroki as Squalo and Yuzawa Koichiro as Lussuria.

I think I got everyone. Well, I doubt that I’m gonna list all the seiyuus for my Rebocon 5 review ._. I mean, its almost a full cast show.

Here’s the full setlist.

Reasons why I purchased this rebocon.

1. This Rebocon consists of quite a number of songs that I’m in love with.

2. I stumbled across a video on Kokubun Yukari singing Mamorubeki mono, Fujiwara Yuki singing Arashi no Ouji, Toshinobu Iida’s Kienai Negai as well as the opening theme songs sung by the cast. I clearly remembered that those costumes were from Rebocon 2009 so I really bought the CD solely for these few songs.

Why?

Because this was the DVD that made me acknowledge the fact that there’s such thing as “Rebocon”

3. Overly excited. It took me a while to decide on my purchase but once I found where to purchase the DVD, I did whatever I could to get it. heh. I mean, really by a while, I meant years. I had been meaning to get hold of a copy of Rebocon for years but no one ever told me how so I some day a few months back, I spent an hour researching and asking various JP shopping agents that I know of and in the end, I settled for CDJapan ‘s special request service.

4. Yakusoku no Basho e. Simple as that.

The Varia quality human beings that joined the show and y’know what, the seiyuus were actually dressed like their characters too.

Like I’ve mentioned, a booklet & 1 cd. And look, Reborn cosplaying as the Vongola is just soooo cute.

See how generous I am, I even took photos of part of the booklet for you reborn fans out there. (fyi. no I am not taking scanning requests on these, sorry.)

About Hibari’s case, well, I can’t say that he wasn’t there, but at the same time, I couldn’t say that he was there either. I mean, he was there, virtually, communicating through a huge screen. Yeah. His voice was as always, amazing. He was there, in the screen to perform Kokou no pride, and it sounded amazing. He was, after all, in a studio, I suppose. I can’t understand Japanese, the only knowledge I have are like what I pick up from anime hence I’m not sure why he was recording from the studio, but whatever it was, it was still good. I can’t remember, but IF I did not recall wrongly, he was also recording his part of Yakusoku no Basho E from the studio.

It isn’t very in depth but it was much longer than my previous review where I combined all 3 items of my cdjapan haul to one post. Oh and I never knew of Chinkonka no Ame until I watched this DVD. I literally sat there and told myself to watch every bit without hitting the fast forward button. And well, I like that song, through Rebocon, you’ll just learn to fall in love with more character songs! :3

I didn’t even know that Right now by Tsuna & Basil was nice until I watched Rebocon 5.

Where to buy?

If you’re currently residing in Japan or you have a friend there or perhaps you know of any Japan shopping agents/services, you can purchase it directly from Pony Canyon, I suppose.

Pony Canyon

However if you’re not residing in Japan like me, I’ve ordered this through CDJapan’s special request service, the link for Rebocon 2009 is below. Is CDJapan trustworthy? Yes. I’ve purchased from them countless times now, that’s why when they launched their special order service, I was crying tears of joy.

CDJapan - Rebocon 2009

Oh and a disclaimer, I actually purchased that DVD with my own money, which I’m sure it gives me the right to post booklet shots to promote the sales of a dvd that I absolutely had no regrets purchasing. Oh and these opinions are given AFTER I’ve actually watched the entire DVD.

Enjoy, ciao ciao! Any questions? Comment below!
